In addition to film and narrative arts, Jared also creates drawings, paintings, and mixed media collages that explore various themes. Among the most central themes of interest to Jared are body image and identity in the face of illness and adversity, especially related to his own journey with Crohn's disease. He additionally explores consumer culture, toys, nostalgia, landscapes, coming-of-age, and what he calls narrative imagery.

Jared is the recipient of the Ion Theodore Award for Visual Arts. He enjoys experimenting with mixing mediums but focuses on acrylic paint, watercolor, color pencil, and ink.
